Biography

Soffia Alarcon is a leader in climate and sustainability, recognized for her significant contributions to the field. She was named a Gamechanger by Bloomberg Businessweek in 2021 and was acknowledged as one of the 12 most influential women in Sustainable Finance in Latin America by the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment in 2022. With over 15 years of experience, Soffia has provided consulting expertise to financial institutions, corporates and government entities on climate change and sustainability solutions.Currently serving as the Associate Director for the Americas in the Sustainability Business at Schneider Electric and a non-resident fellow for the Institute of the Americas, Soffia delivers strategic initiatives to companies, assisting them in navigating decarbonization, sustainability practices, target setting, climate risk, emissions reductions, and ESG assessments. Her previous roles include positions as Director for Sustainable Finance at IHS Markit (now owned by S&P Global), Director of Carbon Trust Mexico, and Director of Climate Change Mitigation Policy in Mexico’s public sector.Soffia holds a master’s degree in Public Administration from Columbia University and has made significant contributions through her teaching, writing, and media appearances.
