Biography
Focusing mainly on humanitarian contexts, Martijn Engels has nine years of experience working with the United Nations Children´s Fund (UNICEF) in complex humanitarian settings in Africa and Asia. With an academic background in International Development Studies, apart from UNICEF, he has worked at the UN Secretariat in New York, the World Bank in Armenia and SPAN Consultants in the Netherlands. Martijn’s areas of expertise range from working on the humanitarian crisis in the Great Lakes Region and the Darfur crisis to the famine in the Horn of Africa and natural disasters in the Philippines and Myanmar. Currently, he is the emergency coordinator of UNICEF the Netherlands.
